Tarlac State University takes immense pride in announcing the participation of Jiane Monique A. Diamzon, a thirdyear student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, in the esteemed Global Intern Program. Facilitated by the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) located in South Korea, the program spanned an intensive 59-day period, from June 11 to August 18, 2023.
Jiane Monique's selection for this international opportunity was a remarkable achievement, emerging as the sole representative from Tarlac State University out of a competitive pool of over 50 applicants from both the engineering and computer science departments. Hailing from the Philippines, she was one of only five chosen participants from the nation, joining peers from renowned institutions like UP Diliman, and collaborating with 18 representatives from diverse countries as part of the wider Global Intern Program cohort. Among the 18 representatives, only 2 students are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, alongside Cambodia; the remaining 16 are enrolled in various engineering courses.
In a significant development, the Global Intern Program (GIP) is offering an exceptional research opportunity at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). As part of this program, participants have the chance to engage with research labs for an eight-week summer term, receiving essential training and mentorship directly from professors within the lab. This initiative provides a valuable platform for individuals to assess the viability of pursuing advanced degrees at GIST while simultaneously acquiring substantial research exposure.
Throughout her tenure, Jiane Monique demonstrated unwavering commitment to academic exploration, immersing herself in the domains of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science laboratories. Additionally, she undertook intricate projects focused on the field of Object Detection. A pinnacle of her accomplishments was the presentation of her research paper titled "MSP-CNN – A Multilevel Spatial Pyramid Convolutional Neural Network for UAV Detection in Imagery," showcasing her adeptness and innovation in the field.
